One great controller-friendly game I'm missing from the early '90s is Star Control II. Considering the only official console release was for the 3DO, a system that doesn't work that well on NES/SNESc, but that there's a fan-maintained version called 'The Ur-Quan Masters' that runs on modern systems, linux, android, PSP, etc. It seems ripe to me for the sort of treatment Hakchi DOOM and Prince of Persia have gotten. I have no technical knowledge so I guess this whole post is to say: wouldn't Hakchi Ur-Quan be sweet?. It's quite possible you didn't play Star Control 2 on the 3DO?
Just recoreded this to show off the fast, furious, and fun Super Melee! Combat engine in the Ur-Quan Masters. Yes, some of the battles can be fairly long and drawn out, but they're surprisingly.
The gameplay is very similar, true, but Star Control 2's comedic adventure is one for the ages and the UR-Quan Masters' mod has all the included cinematics and audio from the 3DO version. This enhances the game beyond belief when compared to other SC2 ports or Star Flight. Really night and day.Of the UR-Quan Masters mod every does get ported, try it out and see for yourself.
Some of the graphics are dated but the gameplay is just as fun and it's still one of the most fun games to this day.

During the game
You can have unlimited Result Units by selling your planet landers even if you have none. As soon as you get to the Starbase enter the Outfit Starship menu and sell your single planet lander. Even after you've sold it push the -Module button and a lot of planet landers are supposed to pop up in your docks. To get rid of the planet landers keep selling them and at about 120,000 RU's they will start to return to the normal amount you can carry. You can continue selling them for tons of RU's but 120,000 will be enough.
